Douglas Maurice Smith, Sr. ,76 , of Jacksonville was called home on 9 May 2019. Born 9/19/1942 and raised in Port Arthur, Texas, he was a veteran of the United States Army. He relocated to Jacksonville, to go into business with Bunky The Juke Box Man. Several years later he and his family formed D&R Amusements. He was known and loved throughout town but his number one love was being constantly surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Maurice Smith, I; mother, Pearl Smith; and grandson, Joseph Veach. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Myrtis (Tiny) Smith; daughter, Lori Smith; sons, Robert M. Smith II and Douglas M. Smith Jr.; grandchildren, Travis Veach, Darrell Veach, Amy Smith, Robert Smith, III, Zachary Smith, William Wilson, Jamie Mercer, Jessica Mercer, Nikki Goodling, Christopher Smith; and great grandchildren, Hayleigh Smith, Charlotte Goodling, Amelia Goodling, and Radlee Goodling.
Services will be held at St Anne’s Episcopal Church in Jacksonville on Thursday, 16 May. Visitation will be at 1 pm with the funeral at 2 pm.
The family asks that donations be made to the Shriner’s Hospital in lieu of flowers.
