JACKSONVILLE - Herschel Grady Sauls, 91, died November 25, 2018, in the loving presence of his family. He was born September 30, 1927 in Jeffersonville, GA to parents Herschel Sr. and Lucy (Floyd) Sauls. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1951, joining the Green Berets in 1958, and serving in the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. During his military service overseas, he met his wife Chieko, and they were married at the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo, Japan December 19, 1955. After retiring from the Army in 1969, he went on to manage and own several H&R Block income tax businesses for over 20 years and retired to become a full-time husband, family man, and fisherman in 1990. He never forgot a name or date and he will never be forgotten for his kindness and generosity, his strong spirit, his love for family and country. He is survived by his wife Chieko; grandchildren, Amelia, Justine and husband Wayne, Natalia and partner Mark; great-grandchildren, Sam, Alice, and Eden. He is preceded in death by his beloved children, baby Herschel and Patty. A memorial service with military honors will be held at 11:00am Saturday, December 1 at Jones Funeral Home Chapel in Jacksonville.
