Irene Ciak Wicher, of Sneads Ferry, died peacefully in Onslow Memorial Hospital on August 13, 2019 at the age of 90.
Irene is survived by her daughter Barbara Wicher McCarty and son-in-law William McCarty of Jacksonville NC; her son Stephen Anthony Wicher and duaghter-in-law Avis Hemby Wicher plus her three grandchildren Lacy, Hayes, and Graham Wicher all of Greenville NC; and her brother Sigmund Anthony Ciak of Long Valley, NJ and his children Irene, Linda, Walter, and Sigmund. She is preceded in death by her husband Stephen John Wicher of Sneads Ferry, NC, and sister-in-law Caroline Ciak of Long Valley, NJ.
Irene was born on July 19, 1929 in Newark, NJ to Antoni and Apollonia Ciak. She graduated from Harrison High School in Harrison NJ in 1947. She married Stephen John Wicher in 1950 and after living in Harrison NJ for 28 years, they moved to Sneads Ferry, NC in 1978. Irene worked in the home raising their two children then she enjoyed working at Rogers Bay Family Campground for many years. After her husband passed in 2004, she lived alone for many years then moved to Jacksonville with her daughter Barbara and her husband William McCarty.
Irene was a passionate Roman Catholic and was a parishioner of Infant of Prague Catholic Church in Jacksonville. She was extremely proud of her Polish heritage and enjoyed sharing it with whoever she met. She loved her three grandchildren and being their “Babci”. Over the years Irene had many pets that she loved dearly, especially her cats. Irene was a loving and caring lady with a great sense of humor. She made friends with anyone she would meet and would chat with a stranger for what seemed like hours.
A visitation is scheduled for Sunday August 18 from 6 to 8 PM at Jones Funeral Home in Jacksonville, NC. A graveside service will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington, NJ on a date yet to be determined.
