John-Christian Tao Makana Kameenui “Pono”, 20 of Jacksonville, began a new journey on November 1, 2018 at 7am.
Christian was born in Onslow County on July 16, 1998 to John and Jeannette Kameenui.
To those that knew him, Christian was a kind, funny, sweet, respectful son, brother and friend. His laugh was infectious, his hands were as big and strong and gentle as he was and his heart even bigger. He loved his family and friends like no other and always wanted the world to be a better place. Christian’s kindness went above and beyond and he never wanted to disappoint. He had dreams of a future with his best friend Joel, he wanted to become a nurse and raise a little girl. A gentle giant that never wanted a conflict and always wanted everyone to be happy. His dad John, was his hero, his mom Jeannette, his eyes to the future, he looked up to his sister JuBee as if she was his mother and never wanted to let his brother Jace down. On the 20th day of his fight for his life after a sudden illness threatened us to the core we told him not to be scared, and how very proud we were of him no matter what path he chose, it was ok, we were not angry with him and that we loved him more than he could ever know, we stayed at his side while his beautiful heart slowly faded into the morning sky.
Longing to be with him again are his parents, John and Jeannette Kameenui of Jacksonville, NC, sister, brother-in-law and nephew JuBee and Karl and Conall Schmid of Jacksonville, NC, brother, sister-in-law and nephew Jace and Nicole and Kai Kameenui of Jacksonville, NC, grandparents Bill and Patsy Hearn of Jacksonville, NC, Robert and Ann Ferda of Washington state, several aunts, uncles, cousins, and too many beautiful friends to count.
