JACKSONVILLE - John Henry Feairheller, Jr. of Jacksonville, NC, husband of Linda A. (O’Donnell), passed away on Monday, May 6, 2019 at the age of 58. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Friday at the Infant of Prague Catholic Church with Rev. Greg Spencer officiating. Burial, with full military honors, will follow at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
Born and raised in Royersford, PA, John was the son of John H. and Dorothy Y. Feairheller. He graduated from Spring-Ford High School (1979) and Shippensburg University (1983) before proudly serving in the United States Marine Corps for 22 years, retiring in 2005 at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. A veteran of Operation Desert Shield/Storm, his distinguished active duty military career took him around the world. He was a member of the Royersford, PA Veterans of Foreign Wars.
After retiring from military service, John worked in the defense contracting sector and was heavily involved in the local community. He attended and supported Infant of Prague Catholic Church, was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and spent countless hours volunteering at the Onslow Soup Kitchen.
In addition to his wife and parents, John is survived by the two step-sons he raised, Brian and Gary McCabe, a brother, Joseph A. Feairheller, husband of Anne Marie, and two nephews, John and Patrick. He was preceded in death by his sister, Shelley M. Bidden.
The family will receive friends Thursday afternoon from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at Jones Funeral Home, Jacksonville Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to two charitable organizations that were close to his heart: the Onslow Soup Kitchen (through Onslow Community Outreach) and Operation LAMB (through the Knights of Columbus).
