Swansboro- Ruth Gray Edmundson Hokum, 90, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, September 9, 2018, surrounded by her family. Ruth was born on July 6, 1928 in Wayne County, NC, the daughter of the late Burrell and Bessie Edmundson.
A celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, September 22, 2018 at Swansboro United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
Ruth was a graduate of East Carolina College and an elementary school teacher for thirty years, most of which time was spent in Swansboro. She was an active member of Swansboro UMC until her health declined, as well as the Sea Oats Chapter of ABWA. Most of all she was a loving and beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Robert T. Hokum, Sr., in 1992, and her daughter-in-law, Deborah Temple Hokum, in 2011. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda and Danny Norris of Swansboro; a son, Robert T. Hokum, Jr. of Awendaw, SC; a granddaughter and her husband, Lindsay and David Epperson of Fayetteville, NC; grandsons Jacob Norris of Swansboro, NC; Robert T. Hokum, III, and William Hokum of Awendaw, SC; and great granddaughters Kylie and Brianna Epperson. Ruth was also preceded in death by, and is survived by, many loving sisters, brothers, nieces, and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Swansboro United Methodist Church Building Fund, 665 W. Corbett Ave. Swansboro, NC 28584.
