Obituary

JACKSONVILLE  -  Master Gunnery Sergeant Allan F Stevens, USMC Retired, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2024, after an extended hospital stay.

Mr. Stevens  was born July 29, 1936 and grew up in Lancaster, Pennsylvania alongside his father, Albert, mother, Sara, and siblings, Gerald (Jerry), and Thomas. After attending school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, which became his passion, his family, and his driving force over the next 45 years of service. While in the Marine Corps, he was stationed at many bases across the globe. He served in Vietnam, Japan, onboard transport ships, and along the east coast of the US. During this time, he considered Jacksonville, NC and, specifically, the Marine Corps Air Stations of New River & Cherry Point as his home. His specialty was supporting troops as a Parachute Rigger and Air Safety Equipment Chief for HML-161 / MAG 16. He was the NCO in charge of the para-loft where he maintained and taught many young troops to ensure all safety and survival equipment used by pilots and crew of his squadrons heavy lift helicopters were kept in tip-top shape. He also developed additional safety equipment which supported transporting wounded marines aboard those helicopters.

During his time in the Corps he was stationed in Japan where he met and married his lovely wife Ayako Yamamoto. Together over the next 54 years they raised their family of four sons.

After he retired from the military he continued to serve the country for over 15 years as a Civil Servant at the Naval Aviation Depot, Cherry Point MCAS where he worked in the Quality & Reliability Assurance Department at their rework facility.

During his retirement years he took pleasure in playing golf and spending time with his family and friends.

Sadly, Allan was preceded in death by his first wife Ayako and sons George & Dennis.

He is survived by his beautiful wife of 6 years, Mieko Yosheda; sons, Michael and Gene, as well as their children and many grandchildren.

Allan will be laid to rest at the Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery. His family and friends will always remember him as a true American and a Proud Marine.
