Obituary

Amanda Meres, 46, of Hubert, North Carolina passed away at her home on May 22, 2026, after a long battle with liver disease. Amanda was born on December 13, 1979, in Goshen, NY to Walter and Pamela Greening.

Amanda graduated from Valley Central High School in 1997. She married her high school sweetheart, Ryan, on June 1, 2002. (well, at least he was still in high school when they met in 1998). They lived a life of adventure, starting when she followed Ryan to the University at Buffalo in 2000. They welcomed their first son, Nicholas, in 2004. Amanda worked for Ingram Micro during her time in Buffalo and became an avid Buffalo Bills fan.

In what must be considered some kind of record, Amanda passed 49 kidney stones during her pregnancy!

Tired of the cold and record-breaking snowfall, Amanda and Ryan moved to Savannah, GA when Ryan transferred to the Savannah College of Art and Design to finish his degree. Amanda worked to support Ryan throughout college. While living in Savannah, Amanda was the manager of a store that sold ink and toner, called All Ribbons Express.

Not content to stay in one place for too long, Amanda and Ryan moved to Atlanta, GA in 2006. It was there that they welcomed their daughter, Grace, in 2007. While working full-time in business development at Sertec, Amanda also took on the role of volunteer children’s ministry director for North Springs United Methodist Church. It was in this role that Amanda found her calling in service to others. This passion for helping children and anyone in need would define the next two decades of her life.

On to the next adventure, this time in Woodbridge, VA after Ryan took a fellowship working for the U.S. Department of Energy in 2010. When 3-year-old Grace became attached to Amanda being home with her during the move, Amanda decided to become a full-time stay-at-home mom. Soon after, Ryan and Amanda joined the St. Paul United Methodist Church and Amanda once again poured herself into helping others and would take on the role of children’s ministry director.

From teaching Sunday School and running Vacation Bible School to creating a mission project to provide hundreds of kids at local schools with food over winter break, Amanda truly found joy in helping others. Amanda and Ryan lived on church property at St. Paul and Amanda transformed their front yard into a pumpkin patch to fundraise for this mission project.

This next adventure was a real treat! Amanda, Ryan, Nick and Grace packed up their house in Virginia, shipped everything to New York and went on a four-week road trip through Alabama. (Yeah, you’re probably thinking…seriously, Alabama?) It was for Ryan’s work, and Amanda was his greatest supporter and always up for adventure. Amanda lovingly, but sometimes chaotically and not always patiently “hotel-schooled” Nick and Grace for these four weeks with lots of hands-on fun through some interesting backroads in Alabama. When travelling on one of these backroads and passing by a sign that said, “World’s Largest Drive Through Art Museum”, Amanda insisted on turning around to see that gem.

After that, it was back to New York where they bought their first house in Cragsmoor in 2015. Amanda first became a coach for Ellenville Little League and then took over as President from 2017-2020. Amanda was a tough, compassionate leader with a love for kids, baseball and community. Amanda and Ryan welcomed their second son, Cooper, in 2016. He was a big surprise and welcome blessing. While in New York, Amanda cared for her dad, the late Walter Greening until his passing in 2021. Amanda also volunteered at Mt. View United Methodist Church where she ran a community fund to help those in need.

Amanda’s love for the ocean and southern culture led her and Ryan on one last adventure to eastern North Carolina, where they landed in 2022. Although her mobility became limited and her health declined, Amanda found peace and happiness with her family and the beach. She was a fighter until the end, always finding ways to help others even as she struggled through her own pain.

Amanda fought fiercely for her three kids. When Grace wanted to play baseball (not softball) for the middle school and they told her she had to play softball…guess who made sure she had the opportunity to play on the baseball team. (And she made the team!) Amanda was there for them every step of the way, making sure they had the resources and support they needed in school and in life.

Amanda had a way of meeting anyone where they were, no matter their struggles, their weaknesses or their faults, she made them feel accepted, loved and dignified. She always said “it’s not my place to judge”. She lived by the Bible verse: Matthew 25:40, which says: “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for the one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”

It was a life too short but a life well-lived.

Amanda is survived by her husband, Ryan, and their three kids, Nick, Grace and Cooper. She is also survived by her mother, Pamela Greening of Montgomery, NY; three sisters, Kim Richner (husband, Bruce), Jennifer Hurley (husband, Gordy) and Victoria Mosso (husband, Philip) and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Mt. View United Methodist Church in Pine Bush, NY or Ellenville Little League in Ellenville, NY.
