Obituary

Hubert- Anita Jones Parker, 85, passed away Monday, August 31,2026 at Onslow Memorial Hospital. She was born May 11,1941 on a tobacco farm in Jones County, NC, daughter of the late Earl Dewitt and Louise Melville Jones.

On May 22, 1959, a tall, lanky 17-year-old-boy named Douglas Parker debated taking a right or a left at the end of Parkertown Rd. to determine which high school friend’s graduation he would attend. He chose left to attend the Jones Central High School graduation; and –67 years later – he still calls it the best decision of his life. That was the night he met the feisty, petite, curly-haired girl named Anita who became his devoted wife and the love of his life. After graduation they attended Chowan College together where Anita earned her associates degree. Douglas and Anit were married on December 14, 1963.

Anita worked as a bookkeeper for William “Billy” Aman, CPA for over 20 years where she gained the sharp tax skills and knowledge she became known for; and where she met some of her closest friends.

Anita served faithfully as an active member of Midway Methodist Church giving countless hours of her time to serve her church family and the community.

Douglas referred to her as the “guiding light” of their family, with three children: Holly Parker Calabro married to Chris, living in Raleigh; Garland Parker married to Emily, living in Clayton; and Mary Parker Bamber married to Steven, living in Parkertown.

Anita’s most treasured and valuable role was that of “Grandma” and “NeeNee” to her seven grandchildren: Magdalene Bamber(27), Abigail Bamber(23), Ethan Parker(22), Parker Grayce Calabro(20), Bryce Parker(20), Claire Bember(20), and Braden Calabro(17), who will always treasure memories of the loving childhood she created for them.

She is survived by brothers, Earl Jones, Jr. and Robert Jones both of Maysville; as well as many nieces and nephews she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by a brother, James Jones.

The family will receive friends Thursday, September 3, 2026 from 6-8 PM at Jones Funeral Home-Swansboro. A graveside service will be held Friday, September 4, 2026 at 2:00 PM at the Parker Family Cemetery located at 817 Parkertown Rd., Hubert, with Rev. Jim Stevens officiating. A reception will follow at Midway Methodist Church in Stella.

Flowers are welcomed to honor Anita’s love of flowers and plants. The annual bloom of her 80-year-old night-blooming Cereus-handed down from her grandmother- was something she immensely enjoyed every season. Donations may be made to the Midway Methodist Scholarship Fund (370 Stella Rd., Stella, NC 28582)- a scholarship that aided many of her grandchildren with their college educations.
