Arthur Leslie
Chase
July 9, 1943 – January 15, 2025
RICHLANDS - Arthur Leslie Chase, 81, of Richlands, passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at home. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 PM on Wednesday, January 29, at Jones Funeral Home, Richlands Chapel, with Care Pastor Matt Miller officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow at Coastal Carolina State Veteran's Cemetery in Jacksonville, North Carolina.
Mr. Chase was born July 9, 1943 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to the late Helen Crile and Harry Chase. With a desire to support his country, he joined the United States Marine Corps in 1960 and served as an Aircraft Mechanic during his 24 years of service. He spent the early years of his Marine Corps career stationed at Cherry Point, North Carolina. During this time, Art met the love of his life, Mary Stilley, and they married in 1964. After they married, Art's career took them many places to include California, Hawaii, Arizona and eventually back to New River Air Station in Jacksonville where he retired in 1984 as a Master Sergeant. While stationed at Cherry Point, Art and Mary welcomed their first child, Denise in 1965. Art loved being a dad and while stationed in Arizona, they welcomed their second child, Amber in 1968. He was a dedicated Marine and never complained about time away from his family due to his allegiance to the Corps and upholding his military obligations. Along with many of his passions, hunting was by far his favorite. No matter where the Marine Corps took him, he would find a good spot to set his sights. Art continued this passion all the way until the end. Along with hunting, Art enjoyed fishing, cooking and baking, and spending time with his family.
Along with his parents, Art was preceded in death by many of his siblings.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Mary Chase, of the home; daughters, Denise Clarke (Josh) and Amber Owen (Greg), both of Richlands. He is also survived by his grandchildren Brittany Bell (Mike), Rebecca Pierce (Dustin), Caitlin Bagby (Sean), Phillip Murray, Joshua Clarke and great grandchildren Michael Bell Jr., Riley Bell, Hunter Bell, Andrew Bell, Kaylee Pierce and soon to be born Alexander Bagby. Art is also survived by his sister Peggy and lots of extended family. The family would like to also like to thank 3HC Home Health and Hospice for their support with Art.
The family will receive friends prior to the service, from 11:00 AM to 12:30PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude's.
