JACKSONVILLE  -  Barbara Jean Newman Cummings, 78, of Jacksonville, passed away Friday, January 9, 2026, at her home, surrounded by family.  Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at Jones Funeral Home, Jacksonville Chapel.  Burial will follow at Onslow Memorial Park in Jacksonville.

Mrs. Cummings was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Cummings; her great-grandson, John Michael; and her parents, Mildred and Jake Newman.

She is survived by her children, Betty Jeanette Smith, Regina Cummings and Jerry Lee Cummings; her grandchildren, Stacy, Ashley, John, Kasey, Makayla, Little Robert and Carly; her great-grandchildren, Nevaeh, Leonardo, Josie Jean and Luke Carson; and her sister; and four brothers.

The family will receive friends Tuesday morning, prior to the service, beginning at 11:00 AM at the funeral home..
