JACKSONVILLE  -  Betty Jo Carroll Hensley, 90, of Jacksonville, died Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at her home. Graveside funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at Onslow Memorial Park.

Mrs. Hensley was born October 15, 1934, in Greenville, the daughter of the late Johnny Carroll and Daisy Carroll.  She graduated from East Carolina University, and along with her late husband, Bob, served as foreign missionaries for 40 years in the Bahamas, Panama, Costa Rica, Barbados, and Mexico until their retirement in 2003, when they established residency in Jacksonville.  Besides serving as missionaries-in-residence with the New River Baptist Association, they also were coordinators for Samaritan's Purse (Operation Christmas Child) shoebox collection for Jacksonville/Onslow County.

Mrs. Hensley is survived by her two sons and a daughter-in-law, Robert Carroll, Jr. and his wife, Brenda, and Joseph Edward; two granddaughters, Krystle Marie and Catheryn Hensley Bower and her husband, Brent, and two great-grandsons, Desmond and Ezra Bower.  She was affectionately known as "Mita" by her granddaughters and their friends and her great-grandsons.
