Obituary

JACKSONVILLE  -  With heavy hearts, the family of Bobby Shelton Williams, 83, of Jacksonville, North Carolina announces his passing on Monday, August 25, 2025.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, September 2, 2025 at Jones Funeral Home, Jacksonville Chapel.  Burial will follow at Onslow Memorial Park.

Mr. Williams was born in Duplin County, North Carolina to the late Jesse Willard Williams and Lela Mae Smith Williams on February 16, 1942.

Bobby S. Williams spent one tour in the navy, proudly serving on the SS Zellers. After marrying and starting a family, in 1967 Bobby began a successful entrepreneurial business journey that lasted for 58 years in Onslow County with the opening of Great Gas and Oil Company. He was a member of Freemasonry, Shriners, and a former Jacksonville City Councilman. In addition, Bobby spent many years coaching men's and women's softball teams. In 2021, he was inducted into the NC USSSA Hall of Fame for his coaching contributions.

Bobby will be remembered for his generosity and kindness, his passion for genealogy, and his love for high school football (especially Dixon High School and Jacksonville High School). He was a storyteller. We especially enjoyed hearing him tell stories of his earlier days, and the adventures he had while growing up in rural eastern North Carolina. Bobby was devoted to his family. Each time a birthday or Christmas came, his only request was for more time spent together.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving sister, Joyce Faye Williams Taylor.

He is survived by his spouse, Louise "Sunshine" Williams; his children, Lynn Williams (John) Fulton, and Bobby Shelton Williams, II and partner Tabitha Brooks; and his stepchildren, Jeffrey (Kim) Allen and Jerry (Gina) Allen. He also leaves behind six grandchildren, Dane (Sofia) Fulton, Chase (Amber) Fulton, Bobby S Williams III, Colt Allen, Kinsey Allen, and Drake Allen. In addition, Bobby is survived by his special pet, Missy; two very special nephews, Cecil Taylor Jr. and Pete Taylor; a cousin considered to be a sister Nancy (Franklin) Stroud, a special group of men he called his Breakfast Group, and many other loving family members and friends.

In lieu of flowers, if you so wish, memorials may be made to the Onslow Victims Center, at 403 N Bayshore Blvd, Jacksonville, NC, 28540.
