Bonnie Brazell
Flowers
Sep 29, 1942 — Jun 22, 2026
Bonnie Brazell Flowers, 83, passed away at the home of her daughter and son-in-law on Monday, June 22, 2026. She was born September 29, 1942, a daughter to the late Ben and Gertrude Brazell of Columbia, SC.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at Three Rivers Baptist Church in Irmo, SC, with Pastor Jeff Duncan officiating. Bonnie lived 82 of her 83 years in the Columbia & Lexington areas of SC.
One of 5 children, she is predeceased by her beloved sister, Nettie Brazell. Bonnie attended Eau Claire High School, was married in 1959, divorced 6 years later, and never remarried.
Being fiercely independent and determined, she worked a number of various jobs over the years but her love for real estate investment came to fruition in the 1980s when she began buying duplexes in West Columbia. She enjoyed improving and maintaining the properties herself as much as possible. Her smile could light up a room and she loved to make others smile with her quirky sense of humor.
Raising her daughter, Cindy, as a single parent was hard, but she did so with tenacity and the help of family. She loved having Cindy’s friends in their home and many of them called her “Mama Flowers”. Bonnie loved being a mom and loved Cindy with every fiber of her being. She also loved her son-in-law, Jeff, as her own son.
Besides losing almost all of her hearing, and the normal effects of aging, she enjoyed relatively good health until being diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in 2020 when she began chemotherapy. Eventually, however, the cancer progressed beyond what treatments could suppress.
She moved to Swansboro, NC to be near her daughter and son-in-law in June 2025. As her health deteriorated, she was placed into home hospice care which continued as she moved into Jeff & Cindy’s home on May 31, where she peacefully breathed her last 22 days later.
Bonnie came to understand she was a sinner in need of a Savior at a young age, and though her life was filled with ups and downs, she was confident of her salvation through Jesus Christ, her only hope for eternal life. She made her profession of faith in Jesus clear, especially in her final weeks of life.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Jeff Duncan of Swansboro, NC; siblings Jeanette Pittard, Roy Brazell, and Lanny Brazell (Shirley), all of SC, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Grace Church Building Fund, PO Box 752, Swansboro, NC 28584.
