Bryant “Whitty” Sanderson, 79, of Richlands, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2026, at Carolina East Medical Center. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, July 13, 2026, in the chapel of Jones Funeral Home of Richlands. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A graveside service will follow at Rigdon-Jarman Family Cemetery.

Whitty was born on January 5, 1947, in Lenoir County, North Carolina, to the late George and Marie Sanderson.

Whitty served his community for 21 years as a firefighter at Camp Lejeune.

He was preceded in death by his spouse, Sandra Newbold Sanderson, brother, Steve Sanderson.

He leaves behind his partner, Carelean Whaley; his daughters, Janell Bryan (Michael) of Richlands and Rhonda Philyaw (Craig) of Comfort; his sons, Keith Sanderson (Crystal) of Richlands, Michael Sanderson (Shawn) of Richlands, and James Whaley (Jennifer) of Richlands; his sister, Wanda Weyant; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many loving family members and friends.
