RICHLANDS. -  Lemon "Butch" Edward Smith, 79, of Richlands, passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2024.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, June 8, 2024 at Jones Funeral Home, Richlands Chapel.  Burial will follow at the J.H. Jones Family Cemetery.

Mr. Smith was an extremely friendly and helpful person. He had a servant's heart and it showed in his willingness to give to others. He earned a living as a mechanic specializing in hydraulics but his heart was in preaching God's love. For 50 years Butch devoted his life to his lord; first in holding prayer meetings in his home and then by preaching the gospel at Great Branch Community Church and Turner's Chapel. In his spare time, he loved to fish or watch Nascar and wrestling. He was a loyal husband and a warm smile that will truly be missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willard and Pearlena Smith; and brothers, Willard Smith Jr. and Frank Glennie Smith.

Survivors include his loving wife of almost 60 years, Mavis J. Smith; brother, Lynwood Smith (Carolyn) of Kinston; sister, Nannie Pearl Sanderson of Hillsborough; sister-in-law, Marcia Smith; and many loving nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:00 to 3:00 PM at the funeral home.
