Obituary

Carolyn Kay Gann of the White Oak community in NC, passed away unexpectedly on October 25,2024 at the age of 65, surrounded by friends and family. She was born to the late Charles and Margaret Kay. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Timothy Gann and her brother, David Kay.

Carolyn is survived by her twin daughters, Amelia Ferren (Patrick) of Asheville, NC, and Carmen Hanczyk (Michael) of Johnson City, TN; three granddaughters, Diana and Katherine Ferren of the home, Cassie Hanczyk of the home; two grandsons, Cameron and Colton Hanczyk of the home; a brother, Charles (Brenda) Kay of Hubert NC, and two sisters, Kathleen Steffee and Rita Peck. She was a loving Aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Carolyn was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed building houses in and around Haywood County since 1980 with her late husband. She was a homemaker and avid gardener, working with her hands was a must and building her own home at the age of 60 was one of her biggest accomplishments. Her passions included: backpacking, camping, skiing, and woodworking, but above all, she loved being with her family and friends on all types of adventures.

A memorial service will be held at noon, on Saturday, December 7th, 2024, at the White Oak Baptist Church in Waynesville, NC. The family will receive friends following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Friends of the WNC Nature Center. Carolyn wanted her children to understand the joys of nature and the Nature Center was dear to her heart as she shared her love of nature with her grandchildren. Donations can be made to wildwnc.org/donate
