Cecil Earl Avery peacefully passed away in the early morning of May 15, 2025. He was surrounded by his loving family. He was a wonderful husband, father, brother and friend. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed sharing his vegetables with his family and friends. He especially loved sharing his very hot peppers.
Cecil retired from Jacksonville City Fire Department with 29 years of active service. He was born October 25, 1943, in the little community of Half Moon to JD and Nannie Lee Avery. In addition to his parents, he is proceeded in death by his brothers, Douglas Lee Avery, Alvin Avery, Harvey "Red Avery, Sammy Avery and Donnie Avery.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years Annie Faye Avery, his son Cecil Eric Avery wife Donna and their 3 daughters, Anna Kate Core husband Callan who are expecting first great grandchild, Laney Claire, and Bailey Ann. His daughter Carrie Pollock, husband Eddie and their daughter Brooke. His youngest son James Bailey Avery wife Katelyn, and their daughter Hazel Ann and Hazel's soon to be sibling. A special son-like brother Delwood Silence wife Sandra and their daughters Mindy Cunningham husband Travis and sons Nathan and William and Rachael Collins husband Heath and son Levi. His youngest brother Roger Avery, wife Pam and sisters-n-law Marilee Avery, Alice Avery, Carol Avery and Julie Avery. And many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at Jones Funeral Home, 303 Chaney Avenue, Jacksonville on Thursday, May 22nd between 5-7 pm. Funeral will be held at Bethlehem Baptist Church, Jacksonville, Friday, May 23rd at 11:30 am with Senior Pastor Reverend Damon Williamson and Army Chaplain Major, Cecil Eric Avery officiating. Graveside service will follow at Onslow Memorial Park, Jacksonville.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Family Life Center Fund at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 100 Half Moon Church Rd, Jacksonville, NC 28540.
