Cecil Wayne
Morton
June 4, 1947 – May 14, 2025
Cecil Wayne Morton, age 77, of Jacksonville, North Carolina, passed away on May 14, 2025, in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Born on June 4, 1947, in Onslow County, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Cecil Morton and Peggy Webb Morton.
Wayne, as he was affectionately known, was a devoted husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, and brother. He is survived by his loving wife, Lynda Morton; son, Jimmy Morton; daughter, Angela Stevens; stepdaughter, Natale Hodges; stepsons, Eric Marslender and Jeff Chisholm; brother, Tony Morton and his wife Carol; sister, Deborah and her husband Roger; sister-in-law, Barbara Morton, and many cherished grandchildren. His family and loved ones will forever remember him as an amazing man who was not only a great brother but the best father to his children.
Wayne had an unmatched ability to make others feel loved and valued. He accepted his stepchildren as his own and went above and beyond for the people he loved. His giving heart was evident to all who knew him, as he selflessly helped family, friends, and even strangers. His humble nature kept him from boasting about his many contributions, but those who were fortunate enough to know him were fully aware of the impact he had on his community. Wayne was a skilled builder, having constructed numerous buildings throughout the area, though many of his acts of kindness will remain known only to those whose lives he touched.
A man of faith, Wayne often said, "Once it leaves my hands, it's in God's hands." His trust in God's will and his commitment to helping others guided him throughout his life. He was a true testament to the power of humility and selflessness.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on May 19, 2025, at Jones Funeral Home in Jacksonville, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 noon. Burial will immediately follow at Onslow Memorial Park.
