Charles Edward Carper, Jr., 72, of Jacksonville, died Tuesday, November 3, 2026 at his home surrounded by his loved ones . Graveside funeral services, with full military honors, will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, November 13, 2026 at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, with Pastor Robert Williams officiating.

Mr. Carper was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Edward Carper and Marlys Tallhurst Carper; and one brother, Danny Carper.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Mercedes L. Carper of the home; one son, Charles E. Carper, III and his wife, Katie Jones Carper, of Jacksonville; two grandchildren, Taylor L. Carper and Tristen L. Carper; & his favorite "Nana" (Annette Shepard ) of Jacksonville and three brothers, Robert Carper of Brainerd, MN, Kenny Carper of Little Falls, MN and Richard Carper of MN. Along with many nieces & nephews & his dear friend of 30 years "Smitty" of Jacksonville.
