JACKSONVILLE  -  Charles Thomas Surles, 90, of Jacksonville, passed away on Monday, January 6, 2026, at Novant Medical Center in Wilmington.  Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at Jones Funeral Home, Jacksonville Chapel.

Mr. Surles retired from the United States Marine Corps as a Major, with 32 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Suzanne Vacany Surles.

Survivors include his son, Eric Surles (Katharina) of Salem, MO; daughter, Valerie Surles Bronson (Robert) of San Diego, CA; son, Judge Michael Surles (Alison) of Swansboro, NC; his grandchildren, Monique, Michael, Valerie, Ava, Aline, Patrick and Christopher; and eight great-grandchildren.
