Hubert- Christine Davis Matthews, 94, passed away Sunday, August 31, 2025, at Heritage in Richlands. She was born May 2, 1931, a daughter of the late Victor and Essie Hood Davis.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Oak Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. Greg McGarvey officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall.

Christine was employed as a teacher's assistant for many years and absolutely loved to see the smiles on the faces of children when they understood and accomplished the task at hand, but her greatest joy was being surrounded by her family and friends.

She is survived by her sons, Barry Matthews (Ruth) of Cedar Point and Ken Matthews (Libba) of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Todd (Ellen), Krystal, and Janell; great-granddaughter, Emily Paige; brother, Alton "Bud" Davis (Kitty) of Hubert; niece, Wanda Conway; and nephew, Don Sweeting (Michelle).

Christine was preceded in death by her husband Leroy and they enjoyed 60 years of marriage together. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Doris Sweeting and a brother, Jimmy Davis.

The ceremony is a celebration of Christine's life and does not require dress-up clothes, please come as you are!

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
