Wilmington- Christopher Douglas Johnston, 69, passed away in Wilmington on Friday, August 21, 2026. He was born January 27, 1957, in Warren, Ohio.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at 11:00am in the chapel of Jones Funerl Home-Swansboro. Burial will follow at 12:00pm at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Chris faithfully and honorably served his country in the US Navy and was a loving father and grandfather who loved to spend time with his family and friends. He loved to fish and spend as much time as possible on the water.

He is survived by his sons, William “Jay” Johnston of Maysville and Dustin Cessna (Melanie) of Stella; grandchildren, Jacob Johnston of Emerald Isle, Averie Cessna, Sadie Cessna, and Brady Cessna all of Stella; father, Robert David Johnston, Sr. of NC; and sister, Jacqueline Christmas of SC.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Jenny Joy Whaley Johnston; and brothers, Larry, Danny, and Robbie.
