New Bern- Clayton Earl Avery, 92, passed away at Gardens of Trent in New Bern. He was born November 30, 1933, in Pamlico County, NC a son of the late, Clayton and Onie Jones Avery.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, October 31, 2026, at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Jones Funeral Home-Swansboro with Pastor Steve Pridgen officiating.

Clayton was a mechanic and bus driver and loved to spend time under a hood, but his greatest joy was being with his family.

He is survived by his son, Jeffery Avery of Hubert; grandchild, Jasmine Hendrickson (John) of SC; sisters, Patricia A. Rutan (Rodney Harper) of NC and Barbara Ann Martin of FL; and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
