Connie Sue
Burke
May 30, 1929 – April 9, 2025
JACKSONVILLE - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Connie Sue Burke, 95, on April 9, 2025 at Transitions LifeCare Hospice in Raleigh, NC after a brief illness. Connie was a long-time resident of Jacksonville, NC. A Funeral Mass will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, May 8, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Infant of Prague Catholic Church.
Born in Kingsport, Tennessee on May 30, 1929, Connie graduated from New Hanover High School, Wilmington, NC in 1947. Her parents were Conrad & Susie Gregory Hutchins. In September 1951, Connie married her husband George, who passed away in 2000 after 49 years of marriage.
Connie loved animals, family road trips, painting and her Church. She was truly someone who never met a stranger, always striking up a conversation with anyone she met whether it was waiting in a line at the grocery store or a fellow customer in a department store. She and her husband took many road trips to the Great Smoky Mountains in Tennessee, her mother's birthplace, where she took photos that she would later use for her paintings. She loved painting and was an accomplished artist, primarily focusing on pastels and watercolors of mountains, beaches and tobacco barns. She volunteered for many years at the Onslow Council for the Arts and won a number of awards for her artwork.
Connie was also a member of The Infant of Prague Catholic Church in Jacksonville and volunteered for numerous activities at the Church. She took her Perpetual Adoration obligations very seriously and was part of the "Linen Ladies" of the Church who are responsible for laundering and pressing all of the linens used by the Church during the weekly services.
Connie is survived by her daughter, Teresa (Terry) Burke Organ and husband, Randy Organ: granddaughter, Samantha Moss and husband, Christopher: grandson, Matthew (Cody) Organ and wife, Taylor: great-grandchildren, Kira Moss, Braxton Moss, Ava Organ and Savannah Organ; nephews, Roald Ely, Larry Ely, Roger Hutchins, Gary Hutchins; niece, Cynthia (Cindy) Hutchins.
In addition to her husband and parents, Connie was predeceased by her sister, Thelma Lucile Ely, who was like a second mother to her and her brothers, Emory ("Bucke") Curtis Hutchins, Walter Alec Hutchins and two nephews, Jerry Steve Ely and Walter Max Hutchins.
The family would like to thank the staff at Transitions LifeCare Hospice who provided amazing care and support for her and her family at the time of her passing.
Memorials may be made to Transitions LifeCare, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607. Donations may be made by mail or phone at 919-828-0890 .
