Obituary

Daniel (Danny) Haywood Williams, age 79, passed away on August 22, 2022, surrounded by his loving family.  He was born in Potters Hill, N.C. to the late Roy and Josephine Bostic Williams.  He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Elton Williams, Donald Ray Williams, and Douglas Earl Williams, and his sisters Frances Evelyn Decker Cauley, and Carol Bass.

Danny is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Annie Margaret Padgett Williams, his children, daughter Kelly Williams Faircloth and her husband Addison Winton Faircloth and sons Gregory Daniel Williams and Jeffrey Daniel Williams, all of Jacksonville, N.C., his grandchildren, Caroline Margaret Faircloth and fiancé Blake Allen Farris of Wilmington, N.C., William Addison Faircloth of Jacksonville, N.C, and Kathryn Lynn Williams of Wilmington, N.C., along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Danny was a loving and devoted son, brother, uncle, husband, father and "Papa".  He cherished his family, friends, church and community, but most of all he loved Jesus and spent his life using his time and talents to serve Him.

He attended Massey Technical Institute in Jacksonville, Fla., where he earned a degree in electronics.  He began his career at Sears as an electronics technician and retired as a District Service Supervisor after more than thirty years of service.  Danny was known for 'fixing things', especially televisions.  He spent much of his free time repairing things for widows/widowers/shut-ins in the community, always paying for any needed parts out of his own pocket. People who knew that Danny did this, began leaving their used or broken televisions and electronics on his front porch so that he could make use of their parts and pieces.  Danny's front porch became known as the "Widow's Box" and every part that he could salvage, from donations left there, was used in service to others.

When he retired, he spent much of his time working at his church and volunteering in his community.  He was a longtime member of New River Baptist/Living Hope Community Church where he served as a Deacon, Trustee, Sunday School teacher, and Royal Ambassadors (RA) Leader/Director. Danny worked in the children's and senior adult ministries and coached the women's church softball team.  He served at the New River Baptist Association as the Associational RA Director and volunteered in senior adult and military ministries.  He was a member of the Jacksonville City Planning and Advisory committee and volunteered with the Onslow County Soup Kitchen and the American Red Cross.

Danny enjoyed good conversation and especially telling a good joke.  He was a source of laughter in times of joy, comfort in times of sorrow, consult and help in times of need, and was generous with all that he had.

Services for Danny will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, August 27, 2022, at Living Hope Community Church, 1310 Hargett Street, with Rev. Robert Hall and Rev. Paul Fowler officiating.  The family will receive visitors prior to the service from 11:00 am to 12:45 pm.  Burial will follow at the Jacksonville City Cemetery.  Services will also be live streamed on the Living Hope Community Church Facebook page.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in his memory to Living Hope Community Church, 1310 Hargett Street Jacksonville, N.C. or the Onslow County Soup Kitchen, 1210 Hargett Street, Jacksonville, N.C.
