David E. Dunn, 93, passed away September 14th, 2022 at home in Sneads Ferry, NC.

David was born in Cumberland County, NC on January 15, 1929 to Robert F. Dunn and Dorcas P. Dunn.

He joined the Navy in 1947 and proudly served until retiring as a Chief Petty Officer in 1967. He most enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, traveling the country, and attending gospel sings with his late sister, Virginia "Betty" Bailey. As a beloved resident of Sneads Ferry for over 45 years, he had many dear friends and neighbors that he had a continued relationship with up until the end of his life, often getting lunch with them or sharing fresh produce and homemade ice-cream.

He was survived by his son, David D. Dunn of Sneads Ferry, granddaughter Shannon Manalo and her husband Oliver Manalo of Norfolk, VA, grandson Jason Franklin of Sneads Ferry, and great-grandchildren, Meranda and husband Joey Collins, Elissa Manalo-Wagner and husband Charles Wagner, Branden Franklin, Kira Manalo, and Jayden Manalo of Hampton Roads, VA.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Mary A. Dunn and daughter Brenda Kay Dunn Farrington.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, September 22, 2022 from 3:00 – 4:00 PM at Jones Funeral Home in Jacksonville, NC where friends are welcome to come pay final respects. A graveside  service will be held at Woodlawn Memorial Cemetery in Norfolk, VA on Friday, September 23rd at 3pm. A celebration of life is to be determined at a later date, but will be held at New River Community Church in Sneads Ferry, NC.
