Obituary

HMC David Lawrence Dross (Ret.) died Sunday, September 21, 2025, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness. David was born on March 2, 1950, in Tarboro, NC, the oldest son of the late George and Frances Dross. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1970 as a hospital corpsman specializing in aviation medicine. He would go on to teach aviation medicine at Naval Air Station Pensacola. He retired from the US Navy in 1994 following 24 years of active service. David oversaw the medical records division at Fort Knox, KY, following his naval career, and retired from there in 2015.

David is survived by his wife, Jean Dross, of the home. Two children, Tanya Swan (Jeremy) and John Dross, all of Prairie City, Iowa. Four grandchildren, Alexis Dross, Brooke Dross, Jarrett Swan, and Johnathan Swan. One sister, Judy Sanders of Richlands. Two sisters-in-law, Carolyn Bunch (Dave) of Pleasant Hill, Iowa, and Tammie Smith (Jay) of Prairie City, Iowa.  Two brothers-in-law, Wayne Kinart (Becky) and Raymond Kinart (Barbara), all of Prairie City, Iowa. David is also survived by several nieces and nephews, as well as his beloved dog, Trixie.

Funeral services will be rendered at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, September 25, 2025 at Onslow Memorial Park with the Reverend Dr. Marc Sanders officiating.
