March 21, 1940 – July 23, 2023
Loving father, grandfather, and husband, Major David Charles LeCount, born to Edna Mae and Edward John LeCount in Tallmadge, Ohio March 21st, 1940, transitioned into Heaven on July 23rd, 2023. Dave, age 83, was a longtime Jacksonville, North Carolina resident.
After graduating from Wake Forest University, he received a commission from the United States Marine Corps. As a decorated officer, he served 21 years, including two tours in Vietnam, and ended his honorable service as a Commanding Officer at New River Air Station.
Shortly after, he began a second career as a middle school social studies teacher in Swansboro, North Carolina. He expressed his passion for teaching over 23 years including coaching school basketball.
After retiring, Dave continued to serve his community as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and at the Pine Knolls Shores Aquarium.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marjorie Lou; his three children (Shannon L Montgomery, David J. LeCount, and Steven J. LeCount); five grandsons (Kyle, Tyler, Scott, Chase, and Chris) and seven nieces and a nephew.
Dave was a devoted dad and husband. He enjoyed sports, especially watching his alma mater Wake Forest. He was an avid technology enthusiast and enjoyed movies and games of all kinds. He spent much of his retirement cherishing vacations with his family. Dave will be deeply missed by his family, friends, students, and all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life is planned for Monday, August 7th, 10:00 AM at Pine Valley United Methodist Church located at 910 Pine Valley Road, Jacksonville, North Carolina. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Wounded Warrior Project, North Carolina Special Olympics, or Pine Knolls Shores Aquarium.
