Dee Dee Uzzell (67) of Surf City, peacefully passed away on Thursday, November 16, 2023 with her loving daughters by her side at UNC Chapel Hill Medical Center. She was born and raised in Onslow County on October 5, 1956 to James Milton Uzzell, Jr. and Betty Sue Harden Uzzell.

Dee Dee began her banking career with Cooperative Savings and Loan. She quickly earned the respect of her colleagues and started learning the loan side of banking. After several years, she made the move to Cameron Brown as a mortgage lender. While visiting a close girlfriend in California, she fell in love with Cali and decided to stay. She took a lead auditor position with General Electric. Dee Dee and her team traveled all over the US auditing closed loans, bundling them together to be sold and serviced by other lenders. While in California, she met David Steele and had two beautiful daughters that she loved, cherished and was extremely proud of. Dee Dee moved back to the east coast to be near family. She began a successful career in real estate working alongside of her daughter, Kylie, with Better Home and Gardens Real Estate Treasure.

Dee Dee was a strong Christian women who loved the Lord fiercely and frequently shared her faith with others. Her infectious smile and personality always brightened up any room she walked into. Behind that radiant smile was decades of wisdom and a strong faith that told her to always see the best in people even when they prove you wrong. She was known by everyone for her kindness, integrity, and her love of God.

Dee Dee is survived by her daughters, Kylie Parkhurst and Samantha Benfield (Saint); mother, Betty Sue Uzzell; brother, James Milton Uzzell, II (Jenny); sister, Ginger Webb (Joe); brother, Roger Uzzell (Terri); granddaughter, Oaklyn Rae Parkhurt; nieces, Sara Uzzell (Drew), Chase Webb; nephews, James Milton Uzzell, IV, David Uzzell (Crystal), Chandler Uzzell (Hayley); and great nephew, James Milton Uzzell, V. She was preceded in death by her father, James Milton Uzzell, Jr.

A service will be held at St. Regis on Sunday, December 10, 2023 at 1:30pm with Apostle Brenda Vega officiating. Following the service a Celebration of Life will be held at the Villa Capriani "Splash by the Sea" restaurant from 3:00pm – 5:00pm. The family extends an open invitation to all family, friends, and co-workers to join us.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in honor of Dee Dee to the SECU Family Housing at UNC Chapel Hill or to UNC Cancer Center. The family would also like to thank all the doctors, nurses, family, and friends for all of their loving care and support.
