Obituary

Jacksonville- Delaney Elizabeth Thompson, 11, left Earth to be with her Heavenly Father, peacefully on February 24, 2021 at her home while surrounded by her family.

Delaney will be remembered for: Her passion for music and love for singing, her love for silly jokes and her laughter, Her love for her family, friends and strangers. Delaney will be remembered for her strength and sweet disposition, no matter how tough things got. She will be remembered for trusting God's word and promises, even when no one else understood his plan. Delaney will be remembered for a smile that lit up a room, a smile that will never be forgotten.

Delaney is survived by her mother, Tara Lawrence and her husband, Michael; father, Randy Thompson and his wife, Darci; siblings: Dallas, Delilah and Danica Thompson, Kendahl and Camille Mellinger, Carlee, Paisley and Aidan Lawrence; grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

The family wish to thank:

Dr. Maria Crespo, at Onslow Memorial Hospital, for believing something was wrong and acting quickly to get Delaney the tests and care she needed.

Dr. Andrew Smitherman and all the staff, with the UNC Pediatric Hematology and Oncology department, for tirelessly and passionately working to find treatment options, manage symptoms, and genuinely loving and helping Delaney and her family. Dr. Smitherman was there from the day she was admitted to UNC, was available while she was being treated at Duke, oversaw her hospice care and has been supportive for the family even in her passing.

Dr. Daniel Landi and all the staff, with Duke's Pediatric Neuro-Oncology department for allowing Delaney to be a part of a trial that gave her more time with her family and friends.

Andrea Hirst,RN and the staff with Lower Cape Fear Life Care for being available to the family and ensuring Delaney was as comfortable and happy as possible.

The staff, students and families at Morton Elementary and Silverdale Elementary for all the support they've shown Delaney and her family.

And all the friends and extended family who were there day in and day out to show love and support to Delaney and her family.
