Swansboro-Diane Catherine Wagner Martin, 70, passed away on Monday, October 23, 2023 at Carteret Health Care with her family at her side. Diane loved her life, her family, her many friends, her pets, and riding the ocean waves.
Diane was born on May 12, 1953 in Hicksville, New York to Harry and Rosemary Groves Wagner. She graduated from Ketcham High School in Wappinger Falls, New York in 1971 together with her future husband and life companion, Herman.
On April 8, 1978 Diane and Herman were married in a double wedding ceremony with Diane's sister, Carol and husband Jim. Diane accompanied her husband during his Air Force career until Herman's retirement. Diane completed her bachelor's and master's degrees in Elementary Education at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
After moving to North Carolina in 2000, Diane touched many lives at the former Emerald Isle Library and volunteering for several organizations. Her friendly and radiant smile was contagious to all who met and knew her. Diane had many dear friends in eastern North Carolina and across the country.
Diane is survived by her husband, Herman; sister, Carol and husband Jim Osika of Emerald Isle, NC, nieces Angela and Shannon, cousins Peggy, Kevin, Bob, and her favorite Uncle Bob.
A Celebration of Life will be held, Saturday November 4, 2023 at 11:00am in the chapel of Jones Funeral Home-Swansboro with Rev. Kevin Baker officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
A heartfelt thank you to the many medical professionals in eastern Carolina and at Duke Medical Center for their absolutely wonderful care during Diane's courageous battles with four various cancers. In particular, a special thank you for the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Carteret Health Care Critical Care Unit in Morehead City during the last week of her life. Their loving and professional care was deeply appreciated.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Carteret Health Care Foundation, 3500 Arendell Street, Morehead City, NC 28557 or the charity of your choice.
