Swansboro- Donald Frank Mitchell, Sr., 84, peacefully passed away at his home on August 19, 2026, with his family by his side. He was born July 14, 1942, in Wilmington, NC, the middle child to the late Willie Frank and Alice Suggs.

A Celebration of Life will be held, August 29, 2026, at 12:00PM at Emerald Isle Chapel by the Sea, with Pastor Clay Olsen officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the courtyard.

Donald married the love of his life, Judy (Julia Geoghegan) and raised 5 children. Donald (aka PawPaw) is a son, brother, cousin, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend.

He is survived by his brother, Ed “Chief” Allen Mitchell (Shirley); children, Alice Cundiff (Doug), Sarah Ann Mitchell, Dana Mitchell, Donna Bell (Cecil), and Donald Mitchell, Jr. (Mistery); grandchildren, Walter O’Berry (Mel), Ginny Ferguson (Adam), Brittany Burns (Jerry), Jackson O’Berry (Katie), Kristi Bell, Jordan Mitchell, Ryan Mitchell, Matthew Mitchell (Hope), Ireland Mitchell, and Pierson Santiago.

He is also survived by great grandchildren, Rylen Blattel, Abel Ferguson, Julian O’Berry, Ava Jones, Isabella Burns, Parker Leigh Ferguson, Kylie Burns, and Monroe Mitchell; and Diana and Jimmy Davis and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by wife of 57 years, Judy Mitchell and his sister, Marie.
