In Loving memory of Dorothy Elizabeth McDowell Maddux

Dorothy, affectionately known as "Dotte" was born on August 29, 1926 in Winston Salem, NC to Leonard and Sadie McDowell.  She attended R.J. Reynolds High School, graduating in 1944.  After high school, she attended Greensboro College and Woman's College, University of North Carolina Greensboro. After college, Dotte worked for the Army Finance Center aboard Fort Bragg, as well as the Veterans Administration Hospital in Fayetteville, in the accounting departments.

Throughout her life, Dotte passionately served on numerous civic organizations, to include serving as Chairman of the Mayor's Committee for Beautification, President of the Fayetteville Garden Council, as well as the Floral Decorations and Entertainment Committees, at the Country Club in Blowing Rock, NC

However, it was her service as the Director of Public Relations for Stone Mountain Park in Stone Mountain, GA that changed the trajectory of her life forever.  While serving in this position, she met Major General Harold Roth Maddux, United States Air Force Retired. They went on to live a long and happy life together until his passing in 2002.  They traveled the world, experiencing many cultures and created lasting memories. Later in life, Dotte would talk for hours, recounting those adventures with her family.

Dotte died peacefully on November 9, 2024, at the age of 98, with her great niece Sheri Slater and Sheri's daughter, Brittney by her side.  Along with her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law, Leonard McDowell, Jr and Mae McDowell, her niece, Karen Vincent (Hubert), nephews David McDowell and Jeffrey Helms.  She is survived by her husband's children Spencer Maddux (Carolyn) Rosewell, GA, Roger Maddux (Maree) Tampa, FL, grandsons Ward Maddux (Lisa) Golden, CO, Micheal Maddux (Tina) Tampa, FL, Matt Maddux (Shanna) Tampa, FL, Robert Maddux (Renee) Roswell, GA, her nephews, Walter McDowell, Carolina Beach, NC, Bobby Helms (Darla) Wichita, KS, nieces Deborah Fuller (Bob) Lantana, TX, Sheri Slater (Chris) of Jacksonville, NC and many more loving family members.
