Asheville, NC- Dr. Betty Lee Brandau, 94, passed away at Four Seasons Hospice, Elizabeth House in Flat Rock, NC on Tuesday, September 22, 2026. She was born on June 14, 1932, in Easton, PA. She was the daughter of the late Simon Martin Brandau and Betty Eure Brandau.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, October 3, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the Mattocks-Ward-Eure Family Cemetery in Swansboro, NC.

Betty Lee was a chemist at the University of Georgia, Center for Applied Isotope Studies, as well as the US Federal Government at NOAA and a brief stint at Y-12 in Oak Ridge, TN. She had a great love of the outdoors and being on the water. She enjoyed travel and spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by her son, Whitney Eure and his fiancé Wendy Lou Billings of Asheville.

She was preceded in death by her longtime partner, Randy Sanford.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Ursinus College in Collegeville, PA, her undergraduate alma mater.
