Swansboro – Edita Alde Horne, 78, of Swansboro, North Carolina passed away on April 24, 2026. Private services will be held at a later date.
Edita was born on May 26, 1947, in Eastern Samar, Philippines to the late Miguel Alde and Felicidad Buna Alde.
Edita was preceded in death by Carlos Alde, Domingo Alde, Pascual Alde, Cresencia Alde all of the Philippines.
She is survived by her children, Sharon Racine (Doug) of Jacksonville, James Horne, and Filipina Teachey (Michael), all of Swansboro, Sherilyn Alde of the Philippines; Sisters, Milagros Maytorena of Las Vegas, Nevada, Gina Yando of Tacoma, Washington, Delia Caligo of the Philippines, Brothers, Mario Alde and Gabriel Alde of the Philippines; grandchildren, Langley, Reagan, Braxton, Isaac, and Jacob; and several siblings, nieces, and nephews.
Edita will be remembered as a strong, caring woman who built a meaningful life through hard work, service, and love for others. In 1978, she became one of the first Filipinos in the Back Swamp community of Onslow County, bringing with her a deep sense of pride and determination. She worked for many years as a seamstress in a local clothing factory, where she took pride in her skill and the work she did each day. Edita later continued her career as a fabric worker with MCCS Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune. In 2006 she volunteered in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and spent 18 months serving in Ramadi and Al-Taqaddum —something that spoke to her courage and willingness to help wherever she was needed. After retiring from MCCS, she focused on the things she loved most. She enjoyed working in her flower garden, playing bingo, and spending time with family and friends. Since 2018, she also cared for her friend Lisa, showing the same kindness and dedication that defined so much of her life.
Edita will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for her strength, her generosity, and the quiet, yet sassy way she showed up for the people around her.
