Eleanor Canady
Cooper
July 2, 1932 – October 9, 2025
Emerald Isle- Eleanor Canady Cooper, 93, passed away peacefully in her favorite chair on Thursday, October 9, 2025.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Swansboro United Methodist Church with Rev. Laura Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Onslow Memorial Park in Jacksonville. The family will receive friends Tuesday, October 14, 2025, from 6-8 PM at Jones Funeral Home Swansboro.
Born on July 2, 1932, in Wilmington, NC, Eleanor was the daughter of the late Eugene and Thelma Kelly Canady. A proud graduate of New Hanover High School, she went on to meet the love of her life, Charles "Charlie" Grant Cooper. Together, they built not only a beautiful family but also a legacy — founding Cooper Investment Company in 1970, where they worked side-by-side for nearly fifty years with unwavering dedication and partnership.
Charlie and Eleanor eventually relocated to Emerald Isle. Eleanor was a charter member of the Emerald Isle Garden Club in 1986, and she took great pride in all the Garden Clubs' accomplishments within the community. With her passing comes the end of another legacy: the passing of its last original charter member.
She was also a longtime member of Swansboro United Methodist Church.
Of all her roles, Eleanor's most treasured was that of "Grandmama." She adored her granddaughters and found joy in watching them grow.
Eleanor is survived by her children, Cathy Fix (Mike) of Minnesota and Greg Cooper (Angie) of Swansboro; grandchildren, Abby Cooper (Ryan Fodell), Lindsey Fix (Ryan Greer), and Sarah Blaser (Troy); her beloved younger sister, Sybil Innis (Mark); great-grand dogs, Phoebe, Dakota, Charlie, Teddy, Stanley, Betsy, Ginger and Benny; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, Grant Cooper; husband, Charlie Cooper; and sisters, Dean Guy and Mildred Odham.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Emerald Isle Garden Club, PO Box 4802, Emerald Isle, NC 28594 or Swansboro United Methodist Church, Music Department, 665 W. Corbett Ave., Swansboro, NC 28584 or to the Swansboro Baseball and Softball Association, PO Box 381, Swansboro, NC 28584.
Thank you, sweet Eleanor, for your steady, kind, and unconditional love.
