Obituary

MAYSVILLE – Fay Diane Barnett, was born on June 12, 1938 in Trenton New Jersey, grew up and spent most her adult life in Palm Beach County Florida. She passed away at her home in Onslow County on July 31, 2021.  Honoring her wishes there will not be a funeral or a traditional viewing, however, a Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.

Fay was the matriarch of the family; one who was fiercely devoted to her family and friends. Fay loved Saturday morning yard sales, a book sale at the local library, coffee and dessert in the afternoon, and sitting on the porch with her family enjoying the evening sun.

Fay was a Registered Nurse and devoted her life to caring for others until her retirement in 2005, after which she volunteered at Onslow Memorial Hospital and served on the board of the Friends of the Aging.

Fay had a soft spot in her heart for cats and was known to stop her car in the rain, on a curvy country road, to rescue a kitten out of a ditch. She adopted kittens that were born under her car in a rain storm and she loved and nurtured them until they crossed the Rainbow Bridge many years later.

Fay had a passion for travel and was known to drive from South Florida across the country to Oregon, stopping and exploring all points in between.

Fay was preceded in death by her daughter Dawn Reid.

Fay is survived by her daughter, Joni Jernigan of Phoenix Arizona, and her son, William Barnett of Maysville North Carolina; seven grand-children; twelve great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild residing in North Carolina, Florida, Texas and Arizona.

Due to her love of animals and having rescued many fur babies along her way please consider making a donation to your local animal shelter in her name.
