Obituary

Frederick William Arendt III, 63, of Jacksonville, NC passed away Friday August 1, 2025 at the New Hanover Regional Medical Center after a short battle with pulmonary fibrosis and lung cancer.

Fred was a graduate of Jacksonville Senior High School (class of 1980).  He had several different jobs before finding his career with the NC Department of Transportation, where he worked for 30 years and retiring as supervisor of the Asphalt Quality Assurance Lab in Burgaw, NC.

Fred was someone you could count on to give you a hand when you needed one.  He might be a bit loud expressing his opinion on the situation, but he would be there for you.

Fred was an amateur historian of World War II.  He enjoyed collecting scale models of US Naval ships and planes from the Pacific Theater area.  He would often repaint the models and add/correct features.

Fred loved all dogs.  He would take treats and hand them out to all of the dogs along his neighborhood walk.  If a dog was missing, he would find a way to make sure that they were okay.

Fred is survived by his sister Louisa L. Arendt of Kernersville, NC.  He was preceded in death by his parents Frederick William Arendt Jr. and Doral Idell Henderson of Jacksonville, NC and his half-sister Mary F. Covington of Petersburg, AK.
