JACKSONVILLE- Glenda Padgett Guenthard, 76, of Alhambra, California, passed away Sunday, August 4, 2024 after a long and fulfilling life.  A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, November 9, 2024 at Pineland Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 205 King Road, Jacksonville, NC.  In honor of her wishes, Glenda's final resting place will be beside her husband, Owen, in the Padgett Family Cemetery on Haws Run Road in Maple Hill, NC.

Glenda was born on September 16, 1947, in Jacksonville, NC, as the only daughter of Travis J. and Ethel McLean Padgett. Her grandparents were Mike J. and Isotah Parker Padgett and Daniel and Nimmie Waller McLean.

Glenda's early childhood years were lived in the Harris Creek community in Onslow County, later moving to Haws Run during the 1950's. She graduated from Dixon High School in 1965 with perfect attendance.  Glenda was employed in the office at Boomtown Furniture and later in the data processing department of First National Bank in Jacksonville. In 1968, Glenda moved to Los Angeles, California. There she had a diverse career in banking, holding positions ranging from clerical roles to real estate appraisals, along with attaining the title of Assistant Vice President. She later pursued a career in real estate sales. She furthered her education at Pasadena City College, earning an associate's degree in real estate. On March 21, 1978, Glenda married Owen Henry Guenthard and was devoted to him until his death, on February 2, 2022. When family and friends visited in California, she and Owen were a perfect host/hostess and were delighted to entertain everyone at all the popular tourist attractions and fine restaurants. Glenda will be remembered for her deep compassion and commitment to charitable work. Throughout her life, she was a beacon of kindness and generosity.

Glenda is survived by her two brothers, Donald J. Padgett (Connie) of Jacksonville, NC and Larry M. Padgett of La Habra Heights, CA; one nephew, Donald J. Padgett, II (Elizabeth) of Salisbury, NC, their children and grandchildren; and numerous cousins and friends.

Memorials may be made to Pineland Evangelical Presbyterian Church in support of the youth puppet ministry.
