Obituary

Jacksonville- Gloria Jean Peedin Vogel, 83, passed away Friday, October 2, 2026, at the Service League of Greenville Hospice House with family by her side. She was born in Wilmington, NC on April 27, 1943.

A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, October 8th, 2026, at 12pm at Jones Funeral Home in Jacksonville. The family will receive friends at 11am, with interment at Onslow Memorial Park immediately following the Celebration of Life.

Jean was a loving wife and mother who had a gift for making everyone around her feel welcomed, cared for, and loved. She was a strong woman with a wonderful influence on her children, grandchildren, family and friends. After graduating from Jacksonville High School, she had a successful career as a teacher’s aide, school nurse and elections official for forty years. Jean loved spending time with family and long-time friends. She especially enjoyed cooking food using family recipes, sharing tasty dishes at the annual family dinner, eating at CiCi’s pizza and going to the beach. She enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren participate in the arts and play sports, and she looked forward to watching sports on the television. She found joy in assisting in the classroom while her children were attending local schools. Jean touched the lives of everyone who knew her and she leaves behind a legacy of love. She was deeply loved, will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by her family and friends. She will be remembered as the kind lady with her hair in a bun.

Jean is survived by her husband of 65 years, James Edward Vogel; son, James Edward Vogel Jr. (wife Cara Lynn) of Raleigh; daughter Jodi Vogel Binard of Charlotte; grandchildren, Samantha Binard, Olivia Binard and Jesse Vogel of Raleigh. Preceded in death by her parents, Helen Morris Peedin and Richard Vick Peedin; and brother Ronald Vick Peedin.
