Gordon "Sonny" Tyson, Jr., 85, of Sneads Ferry passed away on November 19, 2023. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday, November 26, 2023 at the Tyson Home, 122 Tasha Street, Sneads Ferry, NC.

He was born in Bellfonte, Pennsylvania, the son of Gordon Tyson Sr and Pearl Aikey on November 4, 1938. Gordon was married to JoAnne Thompson of Buffalo, NY on July 18, 1964.

Gordon and JoAnne were married for 59 years and had 6 children, Gordon Tyson of Sneads Ferry, NC, Carrie Yates of Northwood, IA, Tracy Mimms of Owatoma, MN, Laura Gwilt of Blooming Prairie, MN, Tammy Persun of Sneads Ferry, NC, James Tyson of Sneads Ferry, NC; 15 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and 1 great grandchildren.

Prior to marriage Gordon was in the Army and Honorably discharged in September of 1957. Gordon was employed as a Master Welder and retired in 2003. Gordon enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, and friends. Gordon also shared a hobby of wood-working and crafts with his wife, JoAnne. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
