Obituary

It is with heavy hearts, the family of Hazel Bell Jarman Parker Cavanaugh, 91, announce her passing.

She slipped the surly bonds of earth and went home to be with Jesus, and a wonderful crowd of smiling loved ones, on Monday February 10, 2025, 31 years, 3 days after her loving husband William L. "Bill" Parker.

She was a giving, caring, loving wife-mother-grandmother-daughter- sister (in-law)-aunt-cousin-friend, whose biggest desire was to help others.  I don't think she ever said no if someone needed her help, especially family.  Often offering it without even being asked.  Many, many have wonderful stories of her coming to help them in big ways and small.  She had a heart of gold and cared deeply for people.

Gardening was a passion, digging and delving in the soil and raising a crop to fruition then sharing, cooking, canning, freezing the abundance.  Collards, beans, cucumbers, fruits, and more.

She loved all sorts of flowers and grew many.  The most famous being the fun, "night bloomers".  She had such a good time with those, sharing the fun with many.

She was ever the hostess with the most-est, frequently hosting memorable, big get-togethers for which she did the organizing, planning, inviting, cooking, serving and cleaning. She loved having so many together.

Camping was a favorite activity, she created some of her most memorable meals for those family camping trips.

She loved to meet new people, often striking up conversations with strangers wherever she was, and by the time they parted it seemed they had always known each other. Traveling and exploring the many new places she lived throughout her life, was another favorite activity.

She kept her house neat and tidy and was a wiz at organizing.

She had a hard start in life, losing two mothers before the age of 9 years, but went on to help raise her five younger brothers and sisters.  She was tenacious and dedicated.

As a young woman, she brazened a new path for herself and set out for Washington DC where she lived with family.  She walked to catch the bus as late as midnight to go to her job at High's Ice Cream and the DC straw company.  Later she returned to NC where she met and married her life partner, William "Bill" Leonard Parker.

They were married for 49 years until his passing in 1994.  They raised five children together.  During that time, she traveled the world as a Navy wife, settling in Viriginia in 1965 as a homemaker.  Many family and friends remember her wonderful family get togethers at the holidays ,and camper caravans in the summer.  They retired to NC in 1985.

10 years after William passed away, she married a good man and friend, FD Cavanaugh. They had 7 very good years together.

She was born August 28, 1933, to Esley and Annie Jarman.

She is preceded in death by her husbands, 1st William L. (Bill)  Parker;  2nd F.D. Cavanaugh.  Two sons, Ronnie Ray Parker and William L. Parker Jr.; one Grandson, "RJ" ( Ronnie Jr.) Parker.

Hazel is survived by, two brothers, Joe Jarman (Katie), Calvin Jarman(Frances), one sister Doris Delcastillo, two sisters- in -law, Katie Jarman and Alice Jarman,  her three daughters, Melinda Parker-Anderson; Hazel Ann Parker-Fries-Brown (Arnold); and Anita Parker-Harrington (Eric); daughters-in-law, Marcia Parker and Tammy Parker; eleven grandchildren, Jesse Parker, Mack Parker (Dawn) , Carl Anderson, Shawn Anderson (Cait), Matthew Anderson (Ashley), Chas Fries (Holly), Andrew Fries, Noah Harrington (Madeline), Megan Harrington, Luke Parker (Lauren), and Katielynn Parker-Miller (Kyle); eight great-grandchildren, Brooke Parker-Trail (Dustin), Mickey Parker, Ava Anderson, Twins Audrey and Calvin Fries, Max and Nico Parker, and Hazel Miller; and two great great-grandchildren, Ian and Gus Trail.  Along with many nieces, nephews, cousins. She dearly loved them all and loved spending time with them.
