Cape Carteret- Hazel Ruth Davis Smith, 89, passed away Tuesday, February 11,2025 at Carteret Healthcare after a brief illness. She was born July 20,1935 in Durham, NC a daughter of the late Joseph Walter and Eleanor Stanley Davis.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, February 18,2025 at 12:00 at Emerald Isle Baptist Church with Reverend Freddie Braswell officiating. Burial will follow at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Hazel was a loving wife and mother who loved to spend time with her family and friends. She made an indelible impression on everyone who met her. Her kind, sweet, vibrant spirit was infectious. Hazel always took care of everyone before herself.  She lived an extraordinary life full of challenges and triumphs, facing everything with faith, strength, resolve, and calm.

She is survived by her only devoted, loving son and caregiver in recent years, Gavin P. Smith.

Hazel is preceded in death by her husband Bobby Ray Smith in 2008. She was also the youngest of 5 siblings who preceded her in death, including Carrie Lee Davis, Charlie T. Davis, Doris Mae Davis, and Joseph Walter Davis, Jr., all of Durham, NC.
