Obituary

Jack Franklin Lane of Jacksonville, NC passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his loved ones on Tuesday, November 15th, 2022 at the age of 66.

Jack was born to Frank Jr. and Annie Ruth Lane on October 22nd, 1956, in Lumberton, NC. Jack was the second of three very active and cowboy loving boys. Jack was a graduate of Jacksonville High School in 1975.  Having decided not to walk the stage for graduation, Jack departed for Naval Boot Camp ready to serve his country. Jack was a proud Navy Veteran spending 4 years as a submariner on the USS James K. Polk. After his time in service, Jack came back home to Jacksonville and spent the next 40 years working diligently for the Onslow County ABC board.

Though Jack was hardworking and dependable, he likewise had many leisures. Jack loved taking vacation trips to Maine and to the Appalachians. It was in the mountains of North Carolina that on October 20th, 2010, Jack married the love of his life and his most dear companion, Evette Saunders. On Sundays, you could always find Jack watching a host of football games, but most notably cheering for his Green Bay Packers. Jack loved going to the movies and could tell you every detailed storyline of a John Wayne or western themed movie. Jack was known for his wit, sarcasm, and wealth of knowledge as he was an avid reader of encyclopedias and National Geographic magazines.

Jack is survived by his loving wife, Evette Saunders Lane; his younger brother, Donald Lane and wife Hui Kyu Lane of Jacksonville, FL; sister-in-law, Wanda Saunders Coleman of Fayetteville, NC; sister-in-law, Thelma Saunders Vest of Hope Mills, NC; brother-in-law, David Saunders and wife Sheila of Fayetteville, NC;  his five well-loved nieces and nephews: Michael Lane, Alicia (Tony) Lane, Cindy (Ryan) Jackson, Frank (Yun Im) Lane, and Hannah (Gabriel) Lane Smith; his favorite four great nephews: Ayden, David, Bryson, and Henry; and his aunt Bonnie Boone and husband Samuel Boone of Lumberton, NC. Jack is also survived by his many tight knit first cousins who made life all the more fun.

Jack is preceded in death by his parents, Frank Jr. and Annie Ruth Lane; his older brother, Larry Lane; and his in-laws, Joseph and Adelina Saunders.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 19th at 9:00 AM at Jones Funeral Home in Jacksonville, NC. Funeral Services will be held afterward at 10:00 AM with Pastor Wes Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Onslow Memorial Park in Jacksonville, NC.
