James Grant Carver II, 73, of Hampstead, NC died Wednesday, February 19, 2026, at Home. He was a native of Pasquotank County, born October 14, 1952, to the Late James Grant Carver and Dorothy Sawyer Carver.  He was a beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather and Uncle.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Stephanie Hunter Carver, two Children: Michael Galloway (Adrian), and Amber Gulley; three grandchildren Hayden Gulley, Allee Mae Gulley, and June Gulley; his Brother Michael Glenn Carver (Melinda) and brother-in-law, J. Tim Hunter; 7 nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, William Edward Carver.

Grant Graduated from Northeastern High School in Elizabeth City in 1970. He was a member of the Glee Club and was a talented singer. After High School, Grant joined the US Navy and was a proud veteran. During his time in the Navy, he served as a hospital corpsman. He was stationed at the Naval Hospital in Portsmouth VA, and aboard the USS Saratoga. After the Navy, grant attended the College of the Albemarle where he became a certified Operating Room Technician and worked at the Albemarle Hospital. Grant later became an insurance salesman for Western-Southern Life and that's when he relocated to the Wilmington, NC. Grant also served as a Clinical Research associate and later a trainer for PPD Industries in Wilmington.  Having the entrepreneurial spirit Grant formed the Energy Control Business, where he helped people make their homes more energy efficient, and then later, he and Stephanie formed G & S Vending. They have vending machines from Jacksonville to Wilmington. Grants lifelong dream was to become a fishing charter Captain. Grants dream was realized when he obtained his Captains License and established Mallard Bay Charters. After obtaining his Captains license, he enjoyed not only taking out fishing charters, but he was one of the captains of the Tiki Tour Boat in Surf City, where he enjoyed telling the history of pirates and rockets on
Topsail Island.  He loved teaching children the fundamentals of fishing and sharing his knowledge of the sport.

Grant was the ultimate sportsman and conservationist.  Grant hunted and fished all his life, being introduced to hunting at an early age by his grandfather. Grant loved to shoot birds on the wing. In his younger years he loved to hunt quail with his beloved Shorthaired Pointer Sam.  Later he found a love for waterfowl hunting.  He was a member of Ducks Unlimited and Delta Waterfowl.  He served as a committee member for many years for both organizations.

Grant loved to fish. He fished in various environments, whether it was fresh water or salt water, inshore or offshore, using kayaks, skiffs, small boats, large boats, or from the bank; it was of no importance to him.  He also loved to fly fish in Alaska and Montana for Salmon and Trout.

One of Grant's greatest joys while hunting and fishing, was having his best buddy, his Boykin Spaniel, "Zeke", with him. Zeke was his constant companion, hunting, fishing, servicing his vending machines, riding in the truck or watching TV, Zeke was by his side. For the last 14 years if you knew Grant, you knew Zeke.
