JACKSONVILLE - James Herman Haga, Jr. of Jacksonville, passed away peacefully late in the evening of Wednesday, April 9, 2025. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
Herman grew up in the mountains of Marion Virginia and was an incredibly creative man who loved to work with his hands as an avid woodworker, craftsman, and artist. He passed on his love of music to both his sons, his skills with the guitar to Wayne and Dillon and his woodworking craftsmanship to his son Jim. After moving to Jacksonville, he met and fell in love with his wife of nearly 63 years, Alice Marie. Herman was a founding member, Deacon, and Sunday school teacher for Centerview Baptist Church. He retired from Sears Roebuck and Company after 40 years and was always a hardworking provider for his family, of which he was incredibly proud.
Mr. James Herman Haga, Jr. is survived by his two sons, James Lee Haga and Terri Lynn Wildeck Haga of Jacksonville; Dr. Edward Wayne Haga and Pamela Joan Mew Haga of Jacksonville; grandchildren, Ashlee Marie Haga and her mother, Maragret of Raleigh, Sarah Elizabeth Haga and Patrick of Chicago; her mother Lori of Jacksonville; Gage Garrett James Haga and Anastasia of Johnson City; Sierra Elizabeth Ann Haga of Richmond; Dillon Wayne Tristen Haga of Charlotte; Kyle Allen Stormoen of Madison, WI; William Christopher Scaff of Massachusetts; Zachary Byron Scaff and Grace of Florida; Katie Elizabeth Scaff and Justin Losciale of Utah; Great Grandson Michael Leo Haga of Raleigh, as well as many dear nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife Alice Marie, his parents James Herman Haga Sr. and Tina Mae Hocket; his siblings Jewel Blevins, Margaret Johnson, Charmie Blevins, Monroe "Sonny" Haga and Dorothy "Dot" Winebarger.
Herman loved watching western movies, walking through his flower-filled yard, and warm peanut butter cookies.
A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, evening, April 14th, 2025, at Jones Funeral Home. The funeral services, officiated by Pastor Mike Schwalm, will be held at Jones Funeral Home at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 15th, 2025, with a graveside service immediately following at the Humphrey Family Cemetery.
