JACKSONVILLE, NC- James Harrell Goodson, 66, of Jacksonville, NC, was received by his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at his home.
He was born December 20, 1944, in Gainesville, FL to Theodore Roosevelt (T.R.) Goodson and Louise Ventry Goodson. Harrell's father was a second generation logger who moved to NC in the early 1950s. Harrell, along with his brothers, became third generation loggers following in their father's footsteps.
Harrell and Jeanette Phillips Goodson were united in marriage on September 14, 1961. They resided in Jacksonville where they raised three children and operated his logging business for 40 years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, T.R. and Louise Goodson; two brothers, Kenneth Goodson and Randy Goodson. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jeanette Goodson; three children, Mark Goodson of Jacksonville, Tammy Robertson and her husband George Robertson of Eden, NC, Kimberley George and her husband Robert George of Jacksonville, NC. Harrell was dearly loved by his grandchildren Jamie Goodson, and Shelby and Maggie Robertson. Also surviving are his brothers; Raymond Goodson, Allen Goodson, Bobby Goodson and Donald Goodson all of Jacksonville, NC, and his sisters, Edna Barnes of Courtland, VA, Shirley Robertson of Suffolk, VA, and Alma Campbell of Luthersburg, PA.
Harrell truly loved his family. He was known for his hard work ethics, his passion for logging, Nascar, Harley Davidson, and Ford.
Visitation will be at Jones Funeral Home in Jacksonville, NC on Friday, March 11, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. The funeral service will be at Jones Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, March 12 at 11:00 AM with Pastors Larry Haggard, Tim Thompson, and Jamie Silance officiating.
