Hubert- First Sargeant James Albert Ryan (USMC Retired), 66, passed away at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington on September 2, 2025. He was born, November 2, 1958, in Bennington, VT a son of the late Francis and Dorothy Burnor Ryan.

A graveside service with military honors will be held Friday, September 12, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.

James faithfully and honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps. During his time in the military her served in Desert Storm and Somalia. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post in Piney Green. In addition to this he was also a member of the Swansboro Moose Lodge, during this time he served in various positions within the lodge, with his last being the Governor from 2018 to 2019. In addition to his love for the military, he also loved to spend time with his family and friends.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his children, Matthew Ryan of Swansboro, Trey Ryan of 29 Palms, CA, and Malissa Ryan of KY; grandchildren, Serinity and Sophia; the mother of his children, Susan Ramey of KY; and siblings, Shirley Young of AZ, Jennifer Fungarilo of FL, Richard Ryan of KY, Robert Ryan of VT, and Jeff Ryan of FL.

He was preceded in death by brothers, David, Donald, Timmy and Tommy Ryan.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
