SWANSBORO - Janet Cochrane Kozma, 66, of Swansboro died Easter Sunday, April 8, 2012 at Vidant Medical Center (formerly Pitt Memorial Hospital) in Greenville, NC.
Memorial services celebrating Janet's life will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at Jones Funeral Home, Jacksonville Chapel. Burial will be at Onslow Memorial Park.
Janet was born October 31, 1945 in Charlotte, NC to the late Dr. Fredrick Richard "Ted" Cochrane and Jane Goodrich Cochrane. She grew up in Charlotte and spent most summers at Wrightsville Beach, NC. Janet graduated from Myers Park High School in Charlotte and attended Winthrop College in Rock Hill, SC and East Carolina University.
Janet moved to Jacksonville nearly 40 years ago and was an active member of the community until late. She was an accomplished homemaker, artist and floral designer. Janet worked at The Flower Shoppe of Jacksonville for over 30 years. She was an experienced knitter and seamstress; making many beautiful and timeless items for her family throughout the years. Janet also enjoyed interior design and often opted to make many décor items to decorate her home as well as the homes of friends and family. In her younger years, she enjoyed swimming and playing tennis.
Janet possessed a wonderfully positive spirit and sense of humor. She had an internal light that continually made others feel instantly enlightened, welcomed and loved. She is predeceased by her parents and a sister, Cathleen Cochrane, formerly of Jacksonville.
She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Nandor Paul Kozma, of Swansboro. She is also survived by two daughters, Michelle Slaughter Marsh and husband Sam, of Cary; Leslie Slaughter Meredith and husband Don, of Chesapeake, Va.; son, Nandor Richard Kozma and Samantha Hunt Hewitt, of Swansboro; stepdaughter, Jessica Kozma Proctor and husband, Randy, of Raleigh; niece, Katherine Cook McKay and husband Doug, of Jacksonville. Her grandchildren include Jack McAllister, Jacob Marsh, William, Andrew and Peyton Meredith, Grace Proctor, Dylan Kozma and Ericka Hewitt.
